10 features to look out while buying computers
Buying a computer is mainly based on personal choice, your budget and what you need the computer for. Different people have different budgets and different reasons to buy a computer. However no matter what your budget and need may be, there are some basic features you have to look out for in a computer.
1. The microprocessor or computer processor is one of the most expensive parts of the computer. It is responsible for the performance, and general running of computer applications where the higher the reference number of the processor is, the better its applications look and perform.
2. Random access memory (RAM) is the next feature to look for in computers. Generally, computers come with a minimum of 1GB RAM, which is sufficient for everyday use. However f you are planning to use your computer for various applications, you will need 2 GB or more of RAM. The higher is the computer RAM, the more applications you can simultaneously run on your computer.
3. The third feature to look for in computers is its hard drive, which is used for the long-term storage of data. While a hard drive of 160 GB, the minimum available in most computers, is sufficient for generic use and for storing some photos, office applications, games and music, you will need 250 GB or more of hard drive space if you plan to store lots of data in your computer. In fact, if you need more memory to store all your favorite movies and applications, its better buying one of the many portable hard drives and external hard drives available.
4. Check the graphics capability of the computer as it determines the quality and clarity of the images on the computer screen. This is very important for those using the computer for graphic and logo designing, and for gaming purposes. It is better to buy a machine with a dedicated graphics card if you plan to use your computer for playing games and watching high definition content. The benefit of using a dedicated graphics card is that it makes your games run faster and smoother and will also show additional details on the screen. Graphic cards with higher reference numbers generally perform better.
5. You need CD or DVD drives in the computer to play and record all types of CDs and DVDs. With a dual-layer burner, you will be able to double your disc to fit in 2-3 hours of DVD quality content.
6. The next feature to look out in your computer is its connectivity options. Make sure your computer has the correct ports for you to connect all the devices you will be using on your computer. Computers offer different types of connectivity for different devices. The connectivity USB ports provide wired connections between the computer and other peripherals like printers and digital cameras while Ethernet ports are used to connect one computer to another computer, network or an external router.
FireWire ports work faster than USB ports and are found on camcorders and digital cameras while the HDMI port lets you transmit digital data from your computer to other audio and digital devices like your television. It is through this port that you can watch films and stream media on your television screen via your laptop.
7. With the help of a card reader, you will be able to read all the data found on your PC’s memory card. This feature is great if you use Bluetooth compatible printers, mobile phones, keyboard, mouse or digital camera too.
8. For a wireless internet connection, your computer should be Wi-Fi enabled. With an active internet connection and a compatible device like a wireless router, you will be able to spend hours surfing the internet on your computer.
9. Check and ensure the computer has built-in modems to connect to the internet. In rare cases of the compute not having any built-in modems, you can still get an internet connection via an external modem. However of the two, built-in modems are always the better choice.
10. Last, but not least, it’s better to buy computers that come with a warranty. Look for warranties that cover accidental damage for the first year, and preferably an additional 2 years of breakdown coverage.
